Awesome
WW2 tanks and girls girls girls!
I've been reorganizing my anime library and decided to
rewatch the Girls und Panzer series. Senpai really loves this as it really
brings to life some of the battle tactics and engagements faced by WW2 tanks
back in the day.
For those who don't know, this series started back in October
2012 and has since completed with an animated film announced for release in
Summer 2015.
The story revolves around a group of high school girls
who participate in a traditional martial art called "sensha-dō"
which means 'way of the tank'. In this alternate universe the WW2 era tanks are
used for sports where different schools compete against one another on huge
Academy Ships.
The main character in this anime is Miho Nishizumi which
comes from a family with a very good history of "sensha-dō"
achievement.
She
is reluctant to participate in the tank competition or help the school to train
but eventually turns around and starts to enjoy it
She is a student at the Ooarai Girls High School and they field an assorted number of WW2
tanks including a German
Panzerkampfwagen IV, Czechoslovakian Panzerkampfwagen 38 (t), German
Sturmgeschutz III Ausf.F, Japanese Type 89B I-Go, American M3 Lee, French Char
B1-Bis, German Tiger (P), and Japanese Type 3 Chi-Nu.
Her team is comprised of driver Mako, gunner Hana, radio
operator Saori and loader Yukari and known as the Anko Team
Their main rival is the girls from Kuromorimine Girls High School and they operate German WW2 tanks
including Panzerkampfwagen III Ausf.Js, Panther Ausf.Gs, a Tiger I, some Tiger
II (Königstiger/King Tiger), a Jagdtiger, a Jagdpanther, Jagdpanzer IVs, an
Elefant (Ferdinand) and an experimental tank, the Panzerkampfwagen VIII Maus.
The remaining schools are as follows
Anzio Girls High School - Italian World War Two tanks,
including several Carri Veloci CV.33, some Semoventi da 75/18, M13/40s and a single Carro Armato P40.
Pravda Girls High School - Soviet World War Two tanks
including T-34/76s, T-34/85s, a KV-2 and a JS-2M (IS-2).
St. Gloriana Girls Academy - British World War Two tanks
including Matilda, Churchill Mk. VII and Crusader.
Saunders University High School - U.S. World War II
tanks, primarily variants of the M4 Sherman medium tank, including an M4A6 and
a British variant known as the Sherman Firefly.
